A message from the President

It has been more than a year since the Board of D-Foot International took office. Since then, we have worked on many activities, some visible to the community and others behind the scenes to move our organisation forward.

In July 2019, the Board prioritised the projects to be developed during the current term, among which were The POINT project, the Diabetic Foot Academy, the translation of the IWGDF 2019 guidelines and new regional implementation strategies of the guidelines. We overhauled the website, giving it a new look & feel, offering a voice to our foot soldiers and presenting information about our activities.

In Abu Dhabi last January, we organised another successful Train-the-Foot-Trainer course for the Middle East region, attended by more than 50 enthusiastic participants.

We have strengthened the role of the Regional Chairs by setting up Regional Councils in South and Central America, Europe and in the Middle East North Africa, giving them greater prominence and promoting their various activities.

We further promoted Associate Professional Membership and made it easier to apply online.

Last March, the COVID-19 crisis caught us all off guard. We were forced to change our plans and adapt our lives and activities to a new reality that has hit everyone very hard. We made a quick decision and in less than two weeks developed the D-Foot Lockdown Academy, streaming 10 webinars by prominent speakers from around the world. The webinars were viewed by more than 1,700 viewers, during and after the live session. The webinars are available for free access on our website.

We are now working on new initiatives to be launched very soon: the D-Foot Implementation Academy, the diabetic foot info cards, new DFU management tools in the community and at home by patients themselves and the regional diabetic foot awareness weeks between 9 and 26 November.

We hope to be able to continue counting on your support in these initiatives and many others in the future to improve the quality of life of our patients with diabetic foot to reduce the number of unnecessary amputations due to diabetes worldwide.

With kind regards
